New York Comic Con 2018 Sketch List Closed

THE LIST IS NOW CLOSED.

HOW TO GET ON THE LIST!

Send an email titled NYCC SKETCH to terry at terrydodsonart dot com (my usual web contact) letting me know the following 3 things:

 1. SIZE

 9” x 12”

 11” x 14"

I will do a full figure or 3/4 figure depending on what works best for the composition on the 11" x 14",

and  likely it will be 3/4 or thigh up figure on the 9" x 12"

I do the sketches on

Color Canson MiTeinte Pastel paper

with Red Col Erase Pencil, Copic Warm Grey Pens, Black Markers, and Prismacolor White Pencil or Pro White

IF you want your sketch in your SKETCHBOOK, just gauge the size to the 9 x 12 or 11 x 14. However, I won't be able to do many SKETCHBOOK commissions as I won't have the SKETCHBOOK until I'm at the Convention.

See below for sketch examples and visit my blog, Instagram, Deviant Art and Twitter for more examples.
I’m not taking Blank Cover Pre-Show requests, I will decide at the show if I’m going to be able to do any there.

 2. SUBJECT

A Single character and I decide if it needs a background but you are welcome to suggest.

Be clear as to what version of the character you want.

I suggest a top 3 list of what you want.

 3. YOUR NAME

As you will be picking this up in person from me at NYCC, I need this. To be fair, and for my sanity, and yours, I’m only taking requests from people actually attending NYCC.

-------NITTY GRITTY-------

-To be fair, and for my sanity, and yours, I’m only taking requests from people actually attending NYCC.

-I will take the first 20 COMMISSIONS requested via email and then CLOSE the list. I will then pick the SUBJECT I want to draw. As I complete them, I will contact you to let you know your piece was chosen, it's done, and request a partial payment via Paypal ($100) to hold, and then remainder in CASH from you at the show at the time of pick up.

-Once I stop the list, I will announce it is CLOSED and then I will let the 20 know they are on the list. If you don’t hear within 24 hours of CLOSED then your request was not one of the first 20. I will continue picking sketches until the start of the show so everyone should know.

-SO, not everyone will get a sketch and there will most likely be some confusion so read everything carefully and if you don’t hear from me with 24 hours of closing the list, you are NOT on the list of 20.

-If you do make the list of 20, you are NOT guaranteed a sketch, just that I’m choosing from those 20.

- It’s only when I email with the 2nd email and tell you your sketch is completed, request partial payment, then, you know, … it’s done :-)

-AND, for the past few shows, I have drawn the majority of the sketches at the show, due to my workload, so you may not get confirmation until the day before the show starts (10/3).

I will do as many as possible!

QUESTIONS!

Please ask in the thread below so everyone can see - thanks!

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks!

Life of Captain Marvel #2 Cover Art Step by Step Part 3 Color

Check Out how we made it

PART 3

COLOR

FLATS

The first stage of color is called flats - flatting allows me to choose an area to color at any point throughout the coloring process.

INITIAL COLOR ROUGH

I colored this on my Cintiq 22 HD using Photoshop CS3 .

I knew I wanted a strong rim light, so I got Captain Marvel's face value approximately right then hit it with the RIM light.

I then rough in quickly all the medium lights and darks on the figures and cast initial shadows.

Using the Pencil Tool (Hard Round pixel Brush) at 100% to to begin and then switch to lower 30-50% to get the right value of color for the next stages of rendering.

COLORING THE LINE ART

This is the icing on the cake step of the process.

I colored a lot of the black lines - notice the lips, flesh outline clothes and SFX in the background.
