Here's a look at how we made the cover art for Bombshells United #11 -
out now from DC Comics and Marguerite Bennett and Stephen Byrne.
PART 1
PENCILS
COVER SKETCH
The cover concept I sent into DC Comics and editor Kristy Quinn for approval.
Roughs were drawn at 2" x 3" in my sketchbook using Warm Grey Copics then colored in Photoshop CS3.
INITIAL PENCILS
Drawn in Light Blue on 12" x 18" Bristol Board
I draw with Col Erase Light Blue Pencil and Staedtler HB Lead Pencil.
And then, the story takes place in Madrid, Spain and I actually took a bunch of pics of Madrid when I was there and I set the scene in my favorite area...
It was a blast to incorporate these amazing buildings into the background!
FINAL PENCILS
All ready for Rachel Dodson to ink...
Next time,
I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while: Why do you draw in blue pencil? I know it doesn’t reproduce well—does it erase better?
ReplyDeleteI draw heavy handed so the blue pencil helps keep my pages cleaner when I do all my initial drawing and backgrounds and perspective lines in blue (light).
