X-Men #1 Cover Step by Step
This is process of how I/we created the cover for Marvel's new comic X-Men #1 featuring all the X-Ladies - Storm, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Psylocke, Rachel Grey and Jubilee! Lots of fun to work on!
I was given the assignment to simply put all 6 characters of the cover and so I did a sketch with almost all the characters prominent at one point or another. Marvel chose A.
The pencils were drawn with light blue and HB lead on 13 x19 " Bristol Board. Loved drawing the MOHAWK Storm!
Rachel Dodson's inks were done over my pencils - she used a Windsor Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Brush #2 and Black Magic Ink.
She knocked it out of the park on this one!
Here are the final colors for this done in Photoshop CS3 using my trusty 11 year old Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet!
My favorite parts to color - Jubilee's cheeks and bubble!
The book ships in April 2013 by amazling talented Brian Woods and Olivier Coipel - can't wait!

Spider-Men #3 Cover Step by Step
This is the variant cover to last summer's 3rd issue of the crossover miniseries "Spider-Men" featuring Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy. Lots of fun to work on!
These are the roughs I sent in to Marvel for their approval - I knew from the start what I wanted to so you see very little change from rough to final which is nice for expediency! Here is the pencil version of the cover drawn on 11 x 17 Bristol Board with Light Blue Prismacolor and HB Pencil.
Rachel Dodson's inks over my pencils - she used a Windsor Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Brush #2 and a croquille pen.
Here are my initial and final colors for this done in Photoshop CS3 using my trusty 11 year old Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet!
And how it looked when printed!

Fantastic Four #4 Cover - Step by Step
This is process of how I/we created the Variant Cover for February 2013's Fantastic Four #4 comic book. I was given pretty free reign on this one - the general scope was a sense of "far out adventure". So I thought of one my absolute favorite comics, John Byrne's "sideways" issue of Fantastic Four #252 and that's what I went for with a touch of Moebius and Steampunk - what a combination ;-)
Here are the sketches I submitted to Marvel - drawn at 2x3 inches in my sketchbook in pencil and pen and then cleaned up and colored in Photoshop - fortunately, Marvel chose "A".The pencils were drawn with light blue and HB lead on 13 x19 " Bristol Board.
Rachel Dodson inked over my pencils with Windsor Newton Series 7 size #2 Sable Brush and FW Acrylic Black ink.
I ran out of time to color the piece, fortunately Laura Martin had time to color this and she knocked it out of the park! Can't wait to see this one in print!
