Atlas #1 Cover - Final Colors

After I made a few tweaks, I wrapped up the colors for Atlas #1. Still not 100% happy, but time is up! This was a lot of fun to color. I will post up a step by step of how I got from the preview colors to this final version next week.

Colored on a Mac Pro with Photoshop CS3 and a Wacom Intuos Graphic Tablet in RGB @ 7" x 10.48" and 800 dpi.

C2E2 - Chicago, April 16-18, 2010

Rachel and I will be appearing at C2E2 in Chicago, April 16-18, 2010. Just to answer a few questions about my appearance in Chicago in a few weeks-

- We will be set up from Friday to Sunday

- I will take sketch requests at the start of the show Friday, 1:00 PM.

- Sketches are $150 each for a single figure like the sketch above.

- I will be selling original art from Uncanny X-Men, Wonder Woman and selected covers and pinups as well.

-I will be signing books/comics/statues/etc as well

-Rachel will be signing but not sketching

Atlas #1 Cover

This is the cover for the first issue of Atlas that will be shipping in May. Deadline was extremely tight on this one so the colors you see above were flatted and colored in about 2 hours. The lineart turned out pretty well so hopefully with a little more time I can make the final colors on the cover will look much better - I will post those up when done.

Uncanny X-Men #519 Page 8 Step by Step

Oh no, not the repetitive ART DECO panel designs ... arrrgh ... run and hide!

So, there were all these scenes in Uncanny X-Men 519 that would take place in Scott's Mindscape (that we had setup as an art deco environment in 504), so I thought it would really help make these pages ( and the issue) more distinct by using these more decorative panel arrangements. Not sure if it worked or not, but was a good excuse to play around. This is all fairly gimmicky and easy to do but sometimes can be used effectively, and gives a much more "artsy" and well thought out look without much effort.

To keep the panels symmetrical I would scan in partially completed pages into Photoshop and flip back and worth until I got the symmetry I wanted. Then would trace off the corrected version.

You can see in these scans that I wasn't happy with my initial big Emma reveal at the bottom of the page and so reworked it for a more dynamic and appealing shot.
